The Lucas Oil Ultimate Endurocross Series: Round 3 Recap Guthrie, OK

Guthrie, OK - This round’s challenges of the Lucas Oil Ultimate Endurocross series presented by Maxey Cycle and Warren Cat involved two rock sections, step up log obstacles, and freezing temperatures. Don’t think it’s named the “Ultimate Endurocross” because the track is a leisure bike ride through the park on a sunny spring afternoon.

The goal for everyone was basically, “not to make many mistakes.” That alone spoke volumes of how technical the track was for the pro riders at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, OK. In the end, it was Matt Crouch of Pittsburg, TX with a dominating win in the Enduro Pro class main event.

“The track was really technical, I thought,” said Crouch. “It varied a lot from the last round, but it was a good race. The rock sections are where it got everybody tonight. If you could keep the rock sections clean you were in good shape.”

Crouch was second off the start and made the pass for the lead about halfway around the first lap. After that he continued to pull away from the rest of the field virtually mistake free. Perhaps, for him, the biggest challenge was getting around the carnage of down riders.

Representing the Enduro Women’s class with a victory, Veronica Martin of Dennison, IL said the track was tough, but was a great way to prepare for the AMA Endurocross Series.

“It was really gnarly. It’s kind of like the AMA Style Geico Endurocross, but tougher,” said Martin.

The Motorhead Events Ultimate Enduro X Series continues this Friday and Saturday, February 17-18 for the fourth and fifth rounds of the championship from Springfield, MO and Ozark Empire Fair Grounds Indoor Arena will host the action.
